Is an account required? No. MacroFast requires no account, no sign-in, and no registration. Everything is stored privately on your device.
Where is my data stored? All data — food entries, macro history, goals, and fasting records — is stored locally on your iPhone using Apple’s encrypted on-device storage. Nothing is sent to any server.
What data sources are used for food search? Food search uses the USDA FoodData Central database, which is bundled directly in the app — no internet connection needed for search. Barcode lookups use the Open Food Facts API, an open-source, community-maintained database. Barcode requests are anonymous and contain no personal information.
Default calorie and macro goal values are based on general dietary reference values for adults from the USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2020–2025: https://www.dietaryguidelines.gov
How do I view my food log history and trends? Tap the History tab. Use the segment picker to switch between three views: “Food Log” (calendar of logged days), “Trends” (weekly and monthly calorie and macro charts), and “Fasting” (fasting history — Premium). Both Food Log and Trends are free.
My fasting timer seems off — why? MacroFast calculates your fasting window automatically from your last logged meal. If the timer looks wrong, check whether the last entry was logged at the correct time, or whether it was an item marked “exclude from fast” (such as black coffee or water).
How do I exclude a food from my fast? Long press any food entry → Edit → toggle “Exclude from fast.” Zero-calorie, zero-macro items like black coffee are excluded automatically.
What features are free vs. Premium? Free (no subscription required): food logging, barcode scanning, meal photos, goal setting, food log history calendar, and calorie & macro trend charts. Premium: fasting tracker with live zone circle, fasting history, and the Glucose insights tab. Premium features require an active subscription.
What is the Glucose tab and how does it work? The Glucose tab is a Premium feature that reads blood glucose data you have stored in Apple Health — for example, from a continuous glucose monitor or manual entries you added in the Health app. MacroFast does not measure or transmit your glucose data. All processing happens on-device.
What does “Within Goal” mean on the Glucose chart? MacroFast uses a personal glucose goal range that you set in the Goals tab (default: 70–140 mg/dL or 3.9–7.8 mmol/L). “Within Goal” means a reading falls between your lower and upper bounds. This is a personal reference point you define — it is not a medical diagnosis or clinical target. The labels “Below Goal” and “Above Goal” similarly reflect your custom range, not a medical threshold.
The default range is informed by glycemic target guidance from the American Diabetes Association (ADA Standards of Care). For your personal target range, consult your healthcare provider. Why does MacroFast request access to Apple Health? MacroFast requests read-only access to blood glucose data to display the Glucose chart. With your opt-in, it can also write nutrition data (calories, protein, carbs, fat) to Apple Health so your logged meals appear alongside your other health data. You can manage these permissions at any time in iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → MacroFast.
Can I change my glucose goal range? Yes. Go to the Goals tab and scroll to the Glucose Goal Range card. Adjust the lower and upper bounds with the sliders. Changes apply immediately to the chart.
How do I cancel my subscription? Go to iPhone Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → MacroFast. You can cancel anytime. Access to Premium features continues until the end of the current billing period.
I purchased Premium but the app still shows the paywall. Tap “Restore Purchase” on the paywall screen. If the issue persists, sign out and back into your Apple ID, then try restoring again.
Can I transfer my data to a new iPhone? Yes — iCloud backup includes your MacroFast data if you have iCloud Backup enabled. Restore your new iPhone from an iCloud backup and your history will carry over.
